According to the New York Post, Apple is in talks with record labels to ttry to offer purchasable ringtones available through iTunes. This may be unveiled at Apple’s September 5th Special Event. iTunes will also allow users to convert previously purchased songs into ringtones.

On a related note, Ambrosia has released iToner ($15), an application to drag-and-drop MP3 and AAC files onto your iPhone for use as ringtones.
