4 January 2008 @ 16:27Warner Bros to Drop HD DVD lineup

Warner Brothers, after having released movies in both HD DVD and Blu-Ray formats simultaneously, and having toyed with the notion of releasing hybrid HD DVD/Blu-Ray discs, has stated today that later this year, all HD releases will be only available in Blu-Ray format. “The window of opportunity for high-definition DVD could be missed if format confusion continues to linger,” said Warner Chairman and CEO Barry Meyer in a statement. “We believe that exclusively distributing in Blu-ray will further the potential for mass market success and ultimately benefit retailers, producers, and most importantly, consumers.”

This is a big win for the Blu-Ray format.
