19 February 2008 @ 10:28R.I.P. HD DVD

hd_dvd.jpgToday, Toshiba has officially put to rest the HD DVD format. Now all of you, who have been waiting for the format war to end, can buy Blu-ray with the assurance (or is that just “hope”) that this format won’t become obsolete shortly.

For all who bought HD DVD players and titles, such is the price of being an early adopter. You may count yourself among a select few who also purchased laserdisc and betamax players. Truth be told, your HD DVD player and media won’t suddenly stop working today, just because Toshiba has stopped their support of the format. In fact, the players still have a lot of life left in them, and you will likely find some great deals on HD DVD movies in the coming months. Don’t forget that your HD DVD player is also useful as an upconverting DVD player for all your “relic movies” ;-) .
