23 July 2008 @ 15:50Papillon to be remade

According to The New Zealand Herald, the movie Papillon (1973) is set to be remade by the Los Angeles producer, Branko Lustig, responsible for films such as Schindler’s List and Gladiator, and John Kelly, who made The Black Dahlia.

The original Papillon starred Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman as a pair of prisoners condemned to a penal colony in French Guiana. Papillon (McQueen) determined to escape but attempt after attempt met with difficulty, resulting in eventual recapture. He continued his attempts to escape with the help of Louis Dega (Hoffman) despite incarcerations in solitary confinement as punishment.

This will certainly be a difficult film to remake, as the original was so well done by two iconic actors.
