28 July 2008 @ 12:50The X-Files: I Want to Believe – review
I made it a point to see The X-Files: I Want to Believe over the weekend, and I can say that I enjoyed it. It felt exactly like an episode from about 1999. This could easily have been a two-part episode from David Duchovny’s last season, aside from the relationship between Scully and Mulder which was further developed in the movie.
Once again, I did enjoy The X-Files: I Want to Believe, but I felt like it was missing an important theme that was interwoven all during the TV episodes and even in the first movie (The X-Files: Fight the Future). The missing theme is that of extraterrestrial life. While some may argue that the X-Files theme has always been “paranormal phenomena”, fans of the series know that the extraterrestrial aspect was the most prominent theme.
So, as I left the theater, I couldn’t help but feel conflicted in that The X-Files: I Want to Believe felt like an entertaining episode from one of the later seasons, but that it was still simply an “episode” and not a feature film.
