Yves “Fusionman” Rossy today became the first man to fly across the English Channel with nothing but a jet-powered wing strapped to his back. Rossy rode in a plane to 8,200 ft, then ignited his jet engines and jumped out. From there, he flew the 22-mile flight from Calais to Dover where he parachuted to the ground.

The flight had been postponed twice prior to today due to inclement weather.

The wing has no rudder. It is instead steered by the movement of Rossy’s head and back.

Below is a video of Rossy in action, but it is not footage of today’s record-setting flight.
