I’ve always been a big fan of the Friday the 13th films. They kept me awake many nights during my childhood. Every time a Friday the 13th marathon came around, I would stay up and watch as many of them as I could.
While the series has been in a creative lull since the 1990′s, I suppose studio executives think it’s time to relaunch the franchise. Michael Bay, who produced this remake, was also the producer of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake from a few years ago. It was relatively good.
I hope the film is somewhat faithful to the series. Already there are some different ideas going on. Jason Voorhees is not even in the original film as his mother is the one killing teenagers at Camp Crystal Lake. Also, the iconic hockey mask didn’t appear until the third film. Instead of being the lumbering silent and calm killer, he looks more maniacal and aggressive in this remake.
This remake has me excited, even if it takes some artistic license with my favorite slasher.

I have to admit that the only movie in this franchise that I have seen is Jason X when it aired on the Sci-Fi Channel. I’m sure that is not a good representation of the other movies.
