11 December 2008 @ 7:38Gmail: Chat via SMS text message
New in Gmail, the ability to chat with a US mobile phone user via SMS. First, go to Settings > Labs > Text Messaging (SMS) in Chat > click Enable or just click here. Simply enter a phone number into the search box in the chat window on the left, then select “Send SMS.” Once you assign a name to that number, you will be able to send messages to that number.
If you get a message from somebody you don’t want to chat with from your phone, just reply with the word BLOCK. If you don’t want to get texts from anybody using Gmail, reply with the word STOP and we’ll leave you alone.
