I believe J.J. Abrams is a talented writer/director and am a big fan of “Lost”, but I was skeptical of how he would do with material as sacred as Star Trek.
Having now seen Star Trek, I can say that J.J. Abrams far exceeded my expectations with this movie. Of course the special effects were terrific, but the storyline and the acting was just perfect, and tied in well with the original series. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Karl Urban handled their characters very well (especially Karl Urban as Bones). Simon Pegg, John Cho, and Anton Yelchin also did tremendous work as Scotty, Sulu, and Chekov. It was also great to see Leonard Nimoy and it helped to tie it to the original series.
I whole-heartedly recommend this movie, even if you aren’t Trek fan. Star Trek is an outstanding action/sci-fi movie which stands well on its own or as a prequel. I would love to see more Star Trek with this cast.
…but what’s the deal with all the lens flare?
