13 October 2008 @ 7:37Gravatar/Automattic anniversary
One year after Automattic acquired Gravatar, a lot has changed. Gravatar migrated from Ruby-on-Rails to PHP, now allows up to 512px avatars, and resides on about 20 servers. 2 Database servers, 1 File server, 2 Load balancers, 5 Caching servers, 9 Web servers, and 1 Development server.
What is Gravatar?
A gravatar, or globally recognized avatar, is quite simply an avatar image that follows you from weblog to weblog appearing beside your name when you comment on gravatar enabled sites. Avatars help identify your posts on web forums, so why not on weblogs?
