Wow. For a netbook that is impressive considering that the competition that the Samsung NC10 is up against averages probably 2.5 – 3 hours of battery life.
On the surface, the NC10 looks like the typical netbook, even its specs are typical of a 10-inch netbook. The NC10 features a 10.2-inch, 1024 x 600 resolution screen with matte finish. Ports include 3 USB 2.0, VGA, Ethernet, 3-in-1 memory card reader, audio in, and audio out. There is a 1.3-megapixel webcam mounted at the top of the display. The processor is a 1.6-GHz Intel Atom CPU. The NC10 comes with 1GB of memory (supports up to 2GB) and a 160GB 5400rpm hard drive.
Battery life on the Samsung NC10 is far better than the competition partly due to the included 6-cell battery. LaptopMag reported getting 7 hours and 34 minutes of continuous web surfing over WiFi with the screen at 50% brightness, and 4 hours and 48 minutes with the screen at full brightness. That is outstanding.
The keyboard of the NC10 is reportedly 93% full-sized, and the trackpad, while small, does have its sole button below the trackpad instead of the inconvenient left and right side placement some manufacturers have chosen to torture us with.
The NC10 comes bundled with Windows XP Home SP3 installed. At this point, I don’t see any signs of Samsung offering other operating systems pre-installed.
All in all, the Samsung NC10 brings some stiff competition to the netbook game.
