Apple has a job opening for a Handwriting Recognition Engineer.

The Handwriting Recognition team is seeking an engineer who will be responsible for advancing Apple’s handwriting recognition technology for Mac OS X. The ideal candidate will be an expert in the area of pattern recognition, with an excellent understanding of handwriting recognition issues. The person will also assume primary responsibility for maintaining and enhancing existing code and tools. The recognition technology you create may extend beyond Mac OS X to other applications and the iPhone.

Apple is currently using handwriting recognition technology from their now defunct Newton PDA in OS X’s Inkwell.

A 20%-30% performance increase is possible by overclocking the XO’s stock 433MHz Geode LX 700 processor. (link)

More details have come to light about the 9-inch version of the Asus Eee PC. Aside from its larger form factor, the only improvement known at this point over the 7-inch Asus Eee PC is a multi-touch trackpad. The multi-touch trackpad should allow for easier zooming and scrolling.

In my opinion, the Jericho series finale was a very anti-climactic ending to what was a was a great series that often left us in suspense until the following week’s episode. Poor choice, CBS. Jericho is a series I will definitely miss, or at the very least, I will just miss a “good” ending.

I was killing some time at Target yesterday in the electronics department (of course, where else would I be?), when I came across the Aiptek A-HD high-def camcorder. This camcorder has a list price of $199 but can be easily found for $130. It records in 720p as H.264 encoded Quicktime movie files. At that price, this is a very tempting camcorder. It is getting mixed reviews on Amazon.com, but doesn’t everything?

Does anyone out want to share their experiences with the Aiptek A-HD high-def camcorder? I would love to hear them.

Intel introduced two new quad-core Xeon processors which are designed to use less than 50 watts each — 2.33GHz L5410 and 2.5GHz L5420 are built on the smaller 45 nanometer Penryn architecture. The new chips will both feature 12MB of L2 cache and run on a 1.33GHz bus. A 3GHz Xeon on the same architecture and with a 6MB L2 cache and consuming only 45 watts of power is due later in the spring.
