Google has released its first developer preview of an “experimental” search application for Mac that allows you to search for files and applications on your computer as well as initiate a Google Web Search. This seems a lot like Google Desktop to me. [via Google Mac Blog]

According to CNN, Ex-Google emplyee, Anna Patterson, has been working on a search alternative to Google called Cuil. Patterson is claiming that Cuil has indexed 120 billion web pages, which is far greater than the 8.2 billion pages Google claimed it had indexed three years ago.
